Signature Revitalises Kechara Soup Kitchen’s Jalan Imbi Centre to Deepen Community Impact

Signature International Berhad (“Signature”) has officially opened a pioneering corporate-led 2-in-1 Dual Food Distribution Kitchen & Empowerment Centre in collaboration with Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK). The newly revitalised Jalan Imbi centre now serves a dual purpose: streamlining meal distribution while also providing a dedicated space for skills-building programmes that help beneficiaries move towards greater self-sufficiency.

This transformation marks the first major initiative under Signature Cares, the Group’s long-term corporate responsibility platform. Rather than a conventional donation, the project channels Signature’s three decades of expertise in design, manufacturing, installation, and project management into a facility tailored to KSK’s evolving operational needs.

For nearly 20 years, KSK’s Jalan Imbi centre has been a vital community hub, delivering meals, welfare aid, and hope to vulnerable individuals and families. As the organisation’s outreach grew, so did the need for a space that could efficiently support daily food distribution while also hosting programmes that equip beneficiaries with practical life skills.

Leveraging its 30+ years of experience as Malaysia’s leading Total Home & Living Solutions provider, Signature fully redesigned and upgraded the centre to enhance workflow, functionality, and the overall experience for volunteers, staff, and beneficiaries alike.

The centre’s centrepiece is the 2-in-1 Dual Food Distribution Kitchen & Empowerment Centre – a flexible, purpose-built space that seamlessly transitions between two roles. During regular operations, it functions as an efficient meal preparation and distribution hub for underserved communities. Beyond meal services, it converts into an empowerment centre where cooking, baking, and other vocational training programmes give beneficiaries hands-on skills, increased confidence, and a clearer path toward long-term independence.

This smart, flexible design enables KSK to maximise the use of a single facility throughout the day, addressing immediate hunger needs while fostering longer-term empowerment—all within the same space.

Mr Lau Kock Sang, Group Chief Executive Officer of Signature, said the project exemplifies how businesses can drive meaningful change by applying their core expertise.

“When we first visited Kechara Soup Kitchen’s Jalan Imbi centre, we saw an organisation that had served vulnerable Malaysians with unwavering dedication for over two decades. The question for us was never whether to help, but how we could contribute most meaningfully—using the very capabilities we have built over more than 30 years.

That principle is at the heart of Signature Cares. Every business possesses strengths that go beyond its products or services. When those strengths are directed toward genuine community needs, they can create lasting value that extends far beyond a single project.”

Mr Justin Cheah Kok Leong, General Manager of Kechara Soup Kitchen, welcomed the revitalisation as a major step forward for the organisation.

“This upgraded centre allows us to prepare and distribute meals more efficiently while also providing a dedicated environment for programmes that help beneficiaries build practical skills and self-belief. It gives us the flexibility to address immediate needs and invest in long-term empowerment—all under one roof.”

As part of the collaboration, Signature employees—known as Signatorians—also came together to contribute essential dry food items based on KSK’s requested needs list. The collected goods will be handed over to Kechara Soup Kitchen to support its ongoing food relief efforts.
