Dunlop Accelerates Malaysian Expansion with 30% Dealer Network Growth and Enhanced Product Lineup

Dunlop is solidifying its long-term commitment to the Malaysian automotive market through a significant expansion of its dealer network, a diversified product portfolio, and strategic investments aimed at meeting the evolving demands of local motorists.

In a decisive move to enhance its national footprint, Dunlop has increased its dealer network by over 30% within the span of a few months, growing from approximately 150 to more than 200 outlets since May 2026. This rapid expansion signals growing confidence among automotive service partners as the brand reinforces its nationwide presence.

This latest development marks a new chapter in Dunlop’s storied history in Malaysia, which began in 1963 when the company became the first tyre manufacturer to establish local production in the country. Today, under the management of Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and supported by the technical expertise of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, the brand is focused on democratising access to premium tyre technology while navigating an increasingly competitive landscape.

As Malaysia’s replacement tyre market evolves—driven by demand for safety, performance, and value across passenger cars, SUVs, and the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) segment—Dunlop is positioning itself to meet these diverse needs.

Strategic Growth and Market Positioning

Marcus Lim, Managing Director of Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., emphasised the strategic importance of the Malaysian market. “Malaysia is an important market for Dunlop and we see tremendous opportunities for long-term growth,” he said.

“Motorists are looking for products that deliver quality, safety and performance, but they also expect genuine value. That is where we see Dunlop’s opportunity. Our ambition is to establish Dunlop as an emerging premium brand by making premium performance accessible to more Malaysian motorists.”

Lim noted that the company’s strategy extends well beyond increasing retail outlets. “We want Dunlop to be available wherever customers choose to purchase and service their tyres, whether through established tyre dealers, automotive service centres or future retail channels that enhance convenience and accessibility. At the heart of our strategy is building strong, long-term partnerships across Malaysia’s automotive aftermarket.”

Expanding the Product Arsenal

To support this strategy, Dunlop is broadening its tyre portfolio across critical segments. The current range includes the Blue Response TG for everyday passenger vehicles, the SP Sport Maxx 060+ for drivers seeking enhanced performance and handling, and the Grandtrek R/T01 tailored for SUVs and pickup trucks. The company is also preparing to introduce the e.Sport Maxx, a tyre specifically engineered to address the unique performance requirements of electric vehicles.

Beyond the consumer market, Dunlop continues to reinforce its relationships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), supplying tyres for select models from major automotive brands including Toyota, Lexus, Isuzu, Mazda, and Leapmotor. These partnerships underscore the trust vehicle manufacturers place in Dunlop’s engineering and reliability.

Toyotsu Binter Malaysia and Sumitomo Rubber Industries are committed to maintaining the highest standards of product quality and supply chain reliability for these OEM programmes, ensuring continuity and strengthening long-standing industrial relationships.

Innovation Driving the Future

As vehicle technologies diversify across internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and fully electric platforms, Dunlop remains dedicated to engineering tyres that deliver safety, comfort, and durability for all motorists.

Takehiko Asai, Managing Director of Sumitomo Rubber Asia (Tyre) Pte. Ltd., highlighted the brand’s enduring commitment to innovation. “Innovation has always been at the heart of Dunlop. Throughout our history, we have continuously evolved alongside advances in mobility, developing technologies that improve safety, performance and driving confidence for motorists around the world.”

“Asai added, “Today, our focus extends beyond conventional tyre development. We are investing in next-generation technologies that enhance energy efficiency, improve wet-weather grip, reduce rolling resistance and cabin noise, while exploring intelligent tyre technologies that will support the future of connected and electrified mobility. These innovations reflect our commitment to delivering products that meet the changing needs of drivers without compromising the quality and reliability that define the Dunlop brand.”
