A collaborative effort between the Air Itam state assemblyman’s office and iNPenang Magazine has resulted in a dedicated destination feature highlighting the township’s cultural, culinary, and natural attractions in the latest edition of the publication.
Titled simply “Air Itam,” the feature aims to present the area as more than just a stopover for well-known landmarks, offering readers a deeper look into its heritage, community life, and recreational spaces.

While Air Itam is widely associated with iconic sites such as Kek Lok Si Temple and its renowned local food scene, the township encompasses a broader range of experiences. These include the bustling Air Itam Market, longstanding residential neighbourhoods, the Air Itam Dam, Penang Hill, and the UNESCO-recognised Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve—all situated within a compact and accessible setting.

The initiative was spearheaded by YB Joseph Ng Soon Siang, State Assemblyman for Air Itam, as part of ongoing efforts to promote the township’s identity and encourage visitors to explore beyond its most frequented spots. The collaboration with iNPenang Magazine consolidates these attractions into a single platform for both local and international audiences.

In remarks shared with the magazine, YB Joseph Ng expressed hope that the feature would inspire more meaningful visits to the area.
“Many visitors come to Air Itam for a specific attraction, whether it is Kek Lok Si, our famous local food or Penang Hill. Through this feature, we hope they will stay a little longer and discover the wider experience that Air Itam has to offer; from our heritage and community life to our local businesses, recreational spaces and natural surroundings. Air Itam is a place that can be explored and enjoyed at a much deeper level. We are grateful to iNPenang Magazine for partnering with us to bring this vision to life.”
The special feature encourages travellers to plan a full day exploring local markets, heritage sites, traditional eateries, and nature-based attractions, with sunset views from Penang Hill as a highlight. It also highlights the township’s vibrant morning atmosphere through its market culture and neighbourhood life.

For Dato’ Chng Huck Theng, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of iNPenang Magazine, the collaboration aligns with the publication’s long-standing mission of showcasing the many dimensions of Penang beyond its most familiar destinations.
“When YB Joseph Ng approached us with the idea of highlighting Air Itam through a dedicated feature, we immediately recognised the opportunity to tell a story that deserves wider attention. Air Itam possesses a distinctive character that reflects many of the qualities that make Penang special, and we are pleased to support this initiative through iNPenang Magazine,” Dato’ Chng remarked.
Since its inception in 2006, iNPenang Magazine has served as a platform for stories on tourism, heritage, culture, business, and community development across Penang. This latest feature continues that mission by turning the spotlight on one of the island’s most vibrant and historically significant townships.

Beyond tourism, the initiative is expected to benefit local businesses, strengthen community pride, and encourage greater appreciation of the diverse neighbourhoods that collectively shape Penang’s identity.
