Malaysian Celebrities Join OVA to Tackle Obesity & Shift the Conversation from Appearance to Health

In a significant move to address one of Malaysia’s most pressing health challenges, OVA, the country’s largest licensed telehealth platform, has announced a strategic partnership with prominent celebrities Siti Nordiana, Diana Danielle, and Shila Amzah.

The campaign arrives at a critical time, as the National Health and Morbidity Survey reveals that 54.4% of Malaysian women are classified as overweight or obese. More concerning, with over 70% of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) linked to obesity, the campaign seeks to bridge the gap between awareness and action—particularly as 57% of individuals with obesity misclassify their condition, often delaying crucial treatment.

A Holistic Approach to Weight Management
The core message of the initiative is that weight management is about far more than willpower. By sharing their personal experiences with weight fluctuations—from the pressures of public life to the physical changes brought on by motherhood—the trio aims to destigmatize the conversation and empower women to seek evidence-based medical care.

“Obesity is one of Malaysia’s biggest health challenges, yet for too long the conversation has focused on appearance rather than health,” said Tom Reynolds, Vice President of Marketing at OVA. “We know that many women face barriers to accessing care, whether that’s a lack of time, awareness, or convenient access to treatment.”

Transforming Access to Care
To support this mission, OVA is leveraging its digital infrastructure to offer seamless access to licensed doctors, personalized treatment plans, and ongoing medical support—all delivered discreetly to the patient’s door. The goal is to remove logistical barriers and integrate medical care into the realities of modern life.

Celebrity Voices on Health and Motherhood
The intimate sharing session highlighted the realities of balancing health, family, and career. Siti Nordiana noted, “Life changes all of us. Motherhood, careers, stress, and the many roles we take on as women all leave their mark.”

Meanwhile, Diana Danielle reflected on her journey growing up in the public eye, stating, “I’ve come to understand that there isn’t always a simple answer. Life changes, our bodies change, and so do our needs.”

Shila Amzah echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the shift in perspective that comes with motherhood. “I’ve learned that weight is influenced by so much more than what we eat or how hard we try. Hormones, biology, and the demands of everyday life all play a part.”
