World Gourmet officially launched the 8th World Top Gourmet Awards 2026 yesterday at the Andaman Grand Ballroom, Kuala Lumpur, marking a significant milestone with the introduction of the inaugural Top Taste Award—a new international recognition celebrating outstanding independent food and beverage products. The event also reinforced the organisation’s dedicated support for the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026) campaign, leveraging gastronomy, culinary tourism, and global industry partnerships.

The high-profile press conference was officiated by Guest of Honour, Tuan Azmi Abdullah, Senior Deputy Director of the Package Development Division, alongside Chef of Honour, Master Chef Dr. Martin Yan, the globally celebrated culinary icon whose influence has inspired chefs and food enthusiasts across generations.
A Decade of Culinary Excellence
Founded in 2017, World Gourmet has grown into an internationally recognised platform committed to promoting culinary excellence, honouring outstanding achievements in the F&B industry, and fostering cross-border collaboration. Over seven successful editions, the World Top Gourmet Awards have celebrated exceptional chefs, restaurateurs, hospitality professionals, entrepreneurs, and brands while driving higher standards and innovation.
As Malaysia gears up for VM2026, World Gourmet is proud to position food as a cornerstone of the nation’s tourism appeal. Through international awards, culinary exchanges, strategic alliances, and cross-border initiatives, the organisation continues to showcase Malaysia’s rich multicultural heritage, strengthen culinary diplomacy, attract global delegates, and open doors for tourism, trade, and investment.

Each year, the Awards bring together renowned chefs, hospitality leaders, food manufacturers, tourism bodies, government agencies, business executives, and media from around the world—creating a dynamic platform for networking, business matching, cultural exchange, and investment that bolsters Malaysia’s economy and reinforces its status as a top Asian culinary destination.
Leadership Vision
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Peggy Chong, President and Founder of World Gourmet, stated:
“Malaysia’s food culture is one of our nation’s greatest strengths. Through the World Top Gourmet Awards, we celebrate excellence while sharing our culinary heritage with the world. We are honoured to contribute to Visit Malaysia Year 2026 by attracting international chefs, industry leaders, and visitors to experience our diverse cuisine, warm hospitality, and vibrant food culture. At the same time, we create valuable opportunities for local businesses to gain international recognition and expand into global markets.”
Introducing the Top Taste Award – A Game-Changer for F&B Products
A major highlight of this year’s launch is the Top Taste Award, a new international accolade dedicated exclusively to independent food and beverage products. Recognising the remarkable growth and innovation within the food manufacturing sector, this category shines a spotlight on entrepreneurs and producers who have crafted exceptional products—blending traditional flavours with modern consumer trends.

Eligible products span a wide range, including heritage foods, beverages, sauces, condiments, snacks, confectionery, frozen items, artisanal creations, health foods, and specialty products. Judging criteria cover taste, quality, authenticity, innovation, consistency, packaging excellence, and consumer appeal.
The award aims to:
- Elevate manufacturing standards
- Inspire ongoing innovation
- Support SMEs
- Provide outstanding brands with greater international exposure and export opportunities
Strategic Partnerships and Ambassadorial Appointment
Another key milestone was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between World Gourmet and iFood, represented by its Founder, Mr. Dicky Lee—a leading organiser of international food fairs and trade exhibitions in the region. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing the F&B industry through exhibitions, trade missions, business networking, and global market development.

The event also marked the official appointment of Prof. Dato’ Chef Zamzani Abdul Wahab, affectionately known as Chef Zam, as World Gourmet Ambassador 2026. One of Malaysia’s most respected culinary educators and ambassadors, Chef Zam will champion Malaysian cuisine and represent World Gourmet in promoting culinary excellence, food heritage, and cultural exchange internationally.

To celebrate Malaysia’s rich traditions, Chef Zam delivered a live culinary demonstration of Ketupat Sotong Terengganu, an iconic delicacy from Terengganu—underscoring World Gourmet’s commitment to preserving authentic Malaysian flavours as part of the VM2026 narrative.
Global Calendar for 2026
Looking ahead, World Gourmet will host two major international awards ceremonies in 2026:
- 8th World Top Gourmet Awards Gala Dinner – 22 October 2026, Andaman Grand Ballroom, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
- 9th World Top Gourmet Awards Gala Dinner – 21 November 2026, LN Garden Hotel, Nansha City, Guangzhou, China
Hosting consecutive galas in Malaysia and China strengthens World Gourmet’s role as a bridge connecting the international culinary community while promoting Malaysia to global audiences.
