Malaysian Interior Industry Celebrates Excellence at MIIP Gala Dinner & Awards Night 2026

The Malaysian Interior Industry Partners Association (MIIP) marked its 16th anniversary with a grand celebration at the MIIP Gala Dinner & Awards Night 2026, held at the Andaman Event Hall, LaLaport Kuala Lumpur. The prestigious event brought together over 150 industry leaders, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and interior designers, alongside representatives from government and professional associations, to honour excellence and foster collaboration within Malaysia’s interior built industry.

The gala was officiated by YB Steven Sim Chee Keong, Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), who delivered a keynote address emphasising the need for Malaysian businesses to enhance their competitiveness, productivity, and resilience in a challenging economic landscape.

The evening’s highlight was the presentation of the MIIP Awards, which recognised outstanding achievements across the industry. With more than 66 entries competing in 12 categories spanning five key areas, the awards celebrated innovation and excellence. The event also served as a strategic platform to discuss the industry’s future, covering critical topics such as business competitiveness, professional standards, regulatory compliance, sustainability, and talent development.

About MIIP and the Awards Ceremony

Established in October 2010, the Malaysian Interior Industry Partners Association (MIIP) is a non-profit organisation representing stakeholders across the entire interior built industry spectrum, including interior designers, fit-out contractors, builders, manufacturers, material suppliers, and related service providers.

Guided by its core principle of “Collaboration Over Competition,” MIIP is dedicated to raising industry standards, encouraging knowledge sharing, promoting professional development, strengthening industry representation, and fostering cooperation among businesses and relevant stakeholders.

YB Tuan Steven Sim Chee Keong’s Address

In his address, Minister Steven Sim congratulated the award recipients, organisers, and sponsors, acknowledging the years of hard work, perseverance, and dedication that stand behind every award.

He emphasised his ministry’s mission to “Hebatkan Perniagaan Malaysia” — Make Malaysian Businesses Great — a commitment that encompasses businesses owned by Malaysians across all communities and industries.

To translate this mission into action, the Minister outlined the ABCD strategy, focusing on four key priorities:

  • A – Accelerate Productivity: Encouraging businesses to improve productivity, adopt automation and technology, enhance service quality, and create greater value beyond competing on price alone.
  • B – Bureaucracy Reduction: Reducing unnecessary administrative burdens, government processes, fees, and other costs of doing business.
  • C – Capital Accessibility: Improving access to financing for businesses, both to sustain operations and to support expansion and growth.
  • D – Drive Market Access: Expanding opportunities for Malaysian SMEs in overseas markets while ensuring they can also participate meaningfully in domestic economic growth.

YB Steven Sim also highlighted the importance of ensuring a fair competitive environment for local businesses. He noted that businesses should not rely solely on price competition but should strengthen productivity, quality, technology adoption, and service delivery to remain competitive.

His address underscored the importance of building a business environment in which Malaysian enterprises can grow, innovate, and compete while contributing to the country’s wider economic development.

Fostering Industry-Government-Academia Collaboration

Since its establishment in 2010, MIIP has worked to connect businesses across the interior built industry and foster closer cooperation with government agencies, professional associations, and educational institutions.

MIIP also recognises the importance of collaboration between industry and academia in preparing the next generation of talent. Through closer engagement with universities and colleges, the association aims to encourage practical learning, promote innovation, and help students understand the needs and opportunities of the interior built industry.

Continuing this commitment, the MIIP Awards 2026 featured the Interior Product Design Award, which recognises Malaysian college and university students for innovative product concepts in areas such as furniture, lighting, kitchen design, storage solutions, and smart home technologies.

MIIP President’s Address: Responsibilities of the Current Committee

MIIP President Elvin Tay said the association’s 16th anniversary was a reminder of its responsibility to raise industry standards, strengthen representation, and promote a more professional and sustainable interior built industry.

“Our vision is One Industry, One Community, One Stronger Voice. Through the MIIP Awards, we celebrate industry achievements while promoting quality, professionalism, fair practices, and responsible business,” said Tay.

Under his presidency, MIIP’s membership has grown from approximately 80 to more than 150 members, bringing together interior builders, fit-out contractors, designers, manufacturers, suppliers, and other industry players.

Tay called on members to introduce more industry peers to MIIP, strengthening its collective voice in engaging policymakers and regulators. He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to professional standards, skills development, workplace safety, material compliance, and consistent enforcement of regulations.

He also emphasised the importance of fair competition, stating that both local and foreign-owned businesses should comply with Malaysia’s applicable laws and standards, ensuring a level playing field while supporting legitimate investment, innovation, and the growth of local enterprises.
